Gregorian Schola

The St. Charles Schola Cantorum is a group of men dedicated to singing the sacred chants of the Church as an integral part of our public worship. We chant the Mass because it is the tradition of the Latin Church and because it has been promoted as the music proper to the liturgy by all recent pontiffs as well as by the Second Vatican Council. We endeavor to be fully in accord with the mind of Holy Mother Church.

The schola sings at the Sunday 9:30 Masses and major feast day liturgies. For over a year the parish has used the Parish Book of Chant, published by the Church Music Association of America. It is a very fine book and has served us well. The schola leads the ordinay chants, and the congregation has been free to join in (and they do!). For the Gradual and Alleluia/Tract, we have employed a work called Chants Abrégés, adjusted to the Ordinary Form calendar.

During the Sundays after Pentecost we've been singing Mass VIII, De Angelis, with Credo III.
